Artifact Power & Traits in 7.2

by pallimmanis on

European Community Manager Aerythlea took to the forums today to answer one of the major questions about Patch 7.2 (currently in testing on the PTR) and how the new artifact traits being added will work with regard to stockpiled artifact power. Once the patch is released players who have reached rank 35 or higher on their artifact weapon will be able to complete a short questline to unlock the new set of traits and if you’ve invested Artifact Power into the final trait it will be refunded to use on the newly added traits. On top of that your weapon will receive a power increase to compensate for the removal of the additional stats from the final trait. One item of note, however, is that if you have already maxed out your weapon(s) ranks and do not have another weapon to apply them to there’s no use in stockpiling your Artifact ...

January 21st starts the first new Micro-holiday introduced in last week’s Patch 7.1.5: Call of the Scarab. Celebrating the anniversary of the ringing of the Scarab Gong, Call of the Scarab hearkens back to a simpler time in World of Warcraft prior to the opening of the gates of Ahn’Qiraj. Much like the original event to open the gates, players gather supplies and slay the Twilight and Qiraji forces to gain status and earn commendations with their faction. At the end of the event the faction with the most commendations earned will fly their banners next to the gong used to open the gates until the next holiday. At BlizzCon it was stated that the goal for this reward would be earned region-wide to combat server imbalance issues so be sure to join the fray and help your faction triumph!...

Blizzard Wins German Lawsuit

by pallimmanis on

A German WoW fansite, Mein-MMO, is reporting that Blizzard recently won a victory against a major producer of automation (botting) software used in their games. On January 12th the German Supreme Court ruled that the “distribution and sale of WoW bot in Germany is anticompetitive”, overturning an earlier ruling by a lower court. Shortly after the ruling was announced the producer stated publicly that this would not be the end of their software and they will continue to offer their products around the world, just not in Germany. In an additional step to recoup some of their lost revenue from several years of legal battles and no longer being able to offer their services to an entire country the producer announced that any “lifetime” license keys for their product would be changed to two-year keys and players would have to purchase additional licensing to use updated versions of the software. While the ...

Invade the Nighthold January 17th

by pallimmanis on

As Blizzard revealed during one of the developer Q&A sessions the next World of Warcraft: Legion raid, the Nighthold, will be released to NA realms on January 17th. Located in Suramar, the Nighthold is described as “the largest structure in the Broken Isles and among the grandest in all of Azeroth”. In spite of the raid being occupied by Gul’dan, Tichondrius, and other creatures of the Burning Legion the raid is heavily focused around elven architecture and magic since it was previously a palace. That does not diminish the malevolence of those that dwell within, however. As with previous raids the opening for various difficulties will be staggered across several weeks beginning on January 17th with Normal and Heroic difficulties. The next week (January 24th) Mythic difficulty and the first wing of LFR (Arcing Aqueducts) will open, followed by Wing 2 (Royal Athenaeum) on February 7th, Wing 3 (Nightspire) on ...

Happy Anniversary, Diablo!

by pallimmanis on

December 31st, 2016 marked the 20th anniversary of the Diablo franchise, originally released on December 31st, 1996. Along with the Darkening of Tristram event slated to take place in Diablo III (including a return to the Cathedral from the original game) Blizzard is including an in-game event for World of Warcraft players to celebrate the occasion as well. The event is apparently already live on EU realms which means it should be starting soon™ on NA servers as well. Along with a Feat of Strength Achievement it also includes some flavor items to temporarily increase player’s stats during the event, a Horadric Satchel 28 slot bag, and a Twelve-String Guitar toy. To obtain these items players must track down a Treasure Goblin in various areas throughout the world including the Dalaran Sewers and the end of some instances. The goblin will attempt to make his escape by casting a portal. ...
