Exploring Draenor: Orc Travellers

by - 8 years ago

Exploring Draenor delves into the hidden places of the world that will one day become Outland. From the volcanic landscape of Frostfire to the gloomy dells of Shadowmoon, these articles are your guide to events that are off the beaten path.

Location: The Cracking Plains, Frostfire Ridge

Reward: Talisman of Yearning Unfulfilled

The windswept tundra of Frostfire Ridge of a harsh and bitter place. The claws and teeth of wild animals are not the only dangers: the elements themselves have shaped the Frostwolf and Thunderlord orcs of the region into hardy specimens. However, there are still those who lose their way and fall foul of the land.

Karash

Out on the Cracking Plains, northeast of Darkspear’s Edge, you will find the corpse of a Young Orc Traveler, which players can interact with to receive the Bound Traveler’s Scroll. Opening this will present you with the Fur-Lined Scroll and Snow Hare’s Foot. On reading the scroll (which also highlights the no-sh*t attitude of orcish women), it’s obvious that there’s a story here – but you only have half of it. However, the letter handily points you the rest of the way.

Karash, presumably the dead orc you have found, was on his way to meet his lover, Magra – probably a Thunderlord – before he died. Read the scroll for clues on where to go next – north-east, to the volcano behind the Thunderlord stronghold of Colossal’s Fall. If you get lost on the way, follow the trail of bones that Magra has laid.

Bone trail

However, the story has an even sadder ending. On reaching the meeting point, you will find Magra (Young Orc Woman) – but she has been frozen alive, staring south-west, waiting for Karash. Her corpse holds the Frozen Envelope, which contains the Frostwolf First-Fang (which likely has the longest flavour text of any non-Archaeology item in the game) and a Dog-Eared Note, which reveals the couple’s plans to leave their clans behind and settle in Nagrand.

Magra

Disappointingly, combining the Fang and Foot results in a trinket, not the orc’s lost spirits finding one another. Hopefully, though, your actions bring some measure of piece to whatever remains of Magra and Karash.

An Exploring Draenor will not be posted next week, as I’ll be at Blizzcon! Until then, keep hunting.

I am a little surprised you don’t get these two showing up as ghosts at your garrison. There seem to be so many aquireable non-followers that I thought these might be a shoe-in.
