Exploring Draenor: High Priest Ikzan

by - 9 years ago

Exploring Draenor delves into the hidden places of the world that will one day become Outland. From the volcanic landscape of Frostfire to the gloomy dells of Shadowmoon, these articles are your guide to events that are off the beaten path.

In a case of spectacularly bad timing, patch 6.2.2 dropped while I was away from home for work – so, while I had wanted to cover the new flying-accessible rare spawns in Tanaan Jungle this week, that will need to wait. Instead, we’ll be looking High Priest Ikzan – who did receive a minor change in this patch. Hey, it ties in!

Location: Ruins of Kra’nak

Reward: Cursed Feather of Ikzan

Ikzan is an oddity in Draenor, in that he is tagged as a member of the Shadow Council – few and far between under the Iron, or even Fel Iron, Horde. Gul’dan appears to have wasted no time consolidating his power base after overthrowing Grommash – and isn’t even limiting himself to orcs this time round.

Ikzan is an arrakoa who patrols the lower area of the Ruins of Kra’nak, in north-west Tanaan Jungle. Here, arrakoa are being trained in the ways of shadow magic and demon summoning – and even resurrection (but we’ll get to that…). Ikzan, apparently, has advanced well ahead of his cohorts – enough that he is a member of Gul’dan’s ruling elite.

In the best traditions of Warlockery, Ikzan will attack you with fire (Felstorm Gale) and shadow magic (Tides of Shadow). These will definitely cause some pain to characters who have only just reached level 100, but should be no problem for raiders. More like Felstorm Fail, am I right? It’s also worth noting that Ikzan’s shadow ability is a callback to Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness.

Plucking Ikzan has a chance to reward you with the Cursed Feather of Ikzan, which will disguise you as a cursed arrakoa. This item was changed to fit the toybox in patch 6.2.2.

The buff from the Feather has an interesting name: Twice-Cursed Arrakoa Feather, implying that the newest member of the Shadow Council is cursed in both the literal (arrakoa curse), and metaphorical sense – probably for trafficking with demons.

If an arrakoa disguise is all that you’re after, of course, you can always go back to Outland and do a fly-by of Skettis, where you will need to put in some effort to summon Terrok.  Pauladin, on Wowhead, has done an excellent write-up of the process.

Terrok has a small (roughly 10%) chance to drop the Time-Lost Figurine.
