Release the Names! Character Name Reclamation Coming

“…and I shall love him, and squeeze him, and call him xXxArthasxXx.”

We’ve all seen the crazy names people come up with when the character name they really want is taken. How many Death Knights on your realm are some combination of the name above, or how many hunters are some variant of “Legolas”?

Blizzard has determined that they will be releasing those names which are assigned to inactive characters prior to the release of patch 6.2 next week. Any character which has not logged into the game (specific character, not just account) since November 7th, 2010 will have their name released for use by new characters or characters undergoing a paid name change service.

Once this reclamation is complete Blizzard is anticipating potentially performing this before the start of each new expansion, with announcements and details being provided shortly before the process actually happens.
