Exploring Draenor: Shadowspeaker Niir

Exploring Draenor delves into the hidden places of the world that will one day become Outland. From the volcanic landscape of Frostfire to the gloomy dells of Shadowmoon, these articles are your guide to events that are off the beaten path.
Location: Socrethar’s Rise
Rewards: Shadowspeaker’s Shard
The summit of Socrethar’s Rise is inhabited by high-level and elite demons, as well as draenei who have given themselves over to the Burning Legion. The most dangerous of these are absorbing power from external sources – you will see several altars scattered around for this use, which can be destroyed during Assault on Socrethar’s Rise.
Shadowspeaker Niir isn’t content to leech the ambient magic of Draenor, however. He has convinced other Sargerei draenei to actively feed him power; a group are channelling energy into him at all times. When you first come across Niir, he will be unattackable – getting closer triggers his final transformation, however, as he rips the remaining magic from his helpers to turn himself into a monstrous void lord.
The name of the game when fighting Niir is area-denial. Make sure to clear the surroundings before pulling, or this fight can get very messy. As well as loving to limit your movement, Niir will make large swathes of the ground impassable without taking heavy damage.
Apparently having taken lessons from Darth Vader, Niir will stun opponents with Crushing Shadows. He also enjoys pulling players towards him, using Dark Entropy – and if this causes you to pass over any of the many, many void zones that he places, so much the better. Finally, he will place a DoT on you called Endemic Shadows.
