Raid Mechanics: Dungeon Progression

by - 9 years ago

One of the biggest problems that we currently have in the game is how little dungeons are worth in your progression. People jump into LFR the second they have the item level for it and completely bypass the amazing dungeons that we have in Draenor.  Thankfully in Patch 6.2, this looks like it will change. With the introduction of Mythic dungeons (and to a certain degree Timewalking Dungeons) Blizzard is attempting to change this.

Raids are the end game in WoW. They should give out the best gear and have important aspects of the lore attached to them. With LFR we even have a way to show these stories to a broader audience, but the problem right now is that in order to raid in an organized group you probably have to run LFR to get some  gear. With four different difficulties of raiding, this leads to higher burnout from running the content many times. I understand that LFR needs some sort of reward but in my opinion having legendary quest items and the Augment Runes is more than enough reason to run LFR on my different characters.

(Draenor dungeons had some very cool mechanics)

Mythic dungeons will have better gear than Hellfire Citadel LFR and I think that is a step in the right direction. For some people attempting normal raids is just impossible, and I understand that. Having a different path of progression that requires less time commitment than a raid sounds like a good solution for those people. Even for those who want to move up to normal or heroic difficulties, Mythic dungeons will provide them with a stepping stone that is no just raiding on various difficulties. I will gladly run these on all the characters I can and enjoy the change of pace in challenging small group content.

As for Timewalking Dungeons I know that I will run them whenever they are up just because they bring up good memories. It is known that they will not be as challenging but for a weekend event they seem like a cool change in scenery to the savage world of Draenor. I think Blizzard can still come up with some cool way to push people to run these but even without that they still sound like a ton of fun.

What is your opinion on the new Mythic and Timewalking dungeons? Will they improve the PVE scene? I would love to read your opinions in the comments bellow.
