Dev Watercooler – Itemization Changes in Patch 6.2

by - 9 years ago

Blizzard has just posted a new Dev Watercooler talking about itemization changes coming in Patch 6.2 and how they’re working to make raid loot feel more rewarding.

Personal Loot

One major change is improvement upon the existing Personal Loot system. Loot chances for Personal Loot will no longer be based on the individual (which had the potential for zero members of the group to receive loot), but instead will be based on a system similar to Group Loot to determine how many members of the party *should* receive loot, and the system will reward items to players accordingly. This should help normalize the amount of loot being earned. Set pieces will also drop more reliably in the new system so it is less likely members will be stuck without a two or four piece bonus.

The overall rate of reward is also being increased for this system, which should help the odds of you obtaining that one piece of loot you need rather than the third pair of boots you got on the first night of raiding.

The UI is also being improved to better show when and what kind of loot your other team members receive rather than just a line in the chat log.

These updates will be made to all Draenor dungeons as well with the introduction of Mythic tier dungeons.

Secondary Stats

Changes are also coming to the amount of secondary stats available on items coming from the Hellfire Citadel raid instance. Secondary stats will appear on items in much higher (and lower) numbers than they do currently to make it more apparent when an item is a significant upgrade. Tuning adjustments are also being made to ensure that your main secondary stat has an impact on your gameplay which should help certain items with large amounts of that stat feel more rewarding.

Item Level Ramp

One item of note in Hellfire Citadel will be how item levels work. Previously, other than a few exceptions, item levels remained consistent across a single difficulty from the first boss to the last. In Normal Blackrock Foundry Gruul’s item drops were the same item level as Blackhand’s.

In Hellfire Citadel this has been changed and the item level of available loot will increase the further into the raid your group progresses. This should hopefully make those later bosses still feel just as rewarding as killing the first boss while also rewarding better items for overcoming more difficult challenges.
