Bashiok Explains Daily Garrison Tasks in 6.1

by - 9 years ago

Patch 6.1 will introduce a new type of daily quest. In a change from the daily quests of Mists of Pandaria where players felt compelled to do every daily every time for maximum reputation gains, in Warlords of Draenor Blizzard has changed things up.

This post from Bashiok talks a bit about the new dailies and the potential rewards from completing them.

6.1 introduces new daily quests that set you on a number of different types of tasks. You’re provided a random task type each day, and within that type a quest is chosen out of a bucket of possible quests. One of the task types is to complete a specific dungeon, and you’ll receive a bag with gear up to (I believe) 655 ilvl. Say you get the dungeon daily, and so do I, we’ll both have the same quest for that day to go (for example) go do Everbloom. Whereas our friends may get tasks of the other quest types (bounty kills, treasure hunts, raids, professions, etc). So you can visit each others Garrisons to pick up the quests you want to do that day. You can do all of them by coordinating who has what quest types available, or just do the one that’s in your Garrison for that day.

If it is only gear coming out of the new bags, then this could be a way to fill in any missing pieces on a main character, gear up an alt you may not always have time to play (provided the rewards are Bind-on-Account or Bind-on-Equip), or another way to make gold by selling anything that comes out of the bag.

Regardless of what the rewards end up being, this could be an interesting addition to the game, and a good way to encourage players to leave their garrisons for more than raids and the Apexis Crystal dailies. Moreover, it encourages players to head back into dungeons; when you look at the time/effort investment for gear out of LFR vs. what it is for heroics or Apexis-bought gear, LFR requires the least amount of effort but also gets repetitive quickly. Getting max-level raiders back into dungeons not only helps to stretch out the shelf life of heroics, it also helps queue times for players who are just hitting max-level now.

We’ll keep you posted on this tasks system as we get closer to 6.1’s release.
