Beat Carrotus Maximus and His Cohorts

by - 9 years ago

A quick google search on Carrotus Maximus reveals many a true word to describe this prime specimen of a root crop, most of which are none too flattering. ‘Overpowerd’ seems to be the most common occurring one, closely followed by ‘annoying’.

Not to worry though, BlizzPro to the rescue! With this handy guide, you’ll have the upper hand in no time.

Defeating Carrotus Maximus is a requirement of Pets Versus Pests, which is a quest you get as you upgrade your garrison to level 3. Completing the quest will unlock the level 1 Menagerie. (You can find more on BlizzPro’s coverage of garrisons in Warlords of Draenor right here.) The two other pests – sorry, pets – to beat are Gorefu, and Gnawface.

What makes Carrotus Maximus difficult to beat is his ability to cleanse all debuffs in combination with a self-heal and a damage reduction ability. In short, his carrot-gladiator shenanigans are hard to counter.

Carrotus Maximus is an elemental battle pet and has three abilities; Ironbark, Aged Yolk, and Leech Seed. Elemental pets are particularly vulnerable to aquatic abilities, but take less damage from mechanical ones. To use aquatic abilities against Carrotus Maximus is, however, not alone enough to defeat him. In order to be successful you need to stun him.

I used a team consisting of Yellow-Bellied Bullfrog, Moonshell Crab, and Spirebound Crab. The key to success is to use Frog Kiss until you manage to transform Carrotus Maximus to a frog. From there on out it’s easy to out-damage his self-healing and/or cleansing.

Gorefu is an aquatic pet and has the following abilities; Deep Bite, Mudslide, and Feed. In order to defeat him I used a team of flying pets, more specifically Gilnean Raven, Ji-Kun Hatchling, and Wildhammar Gryphon Hatchling. Start off with the Gilnean Raven and use it to counter Gorefu’s Mudslide with Call Darkness. That will not only reduce all healing Gorfu gets from Feed, but also make sure you hit for a lot of damage with Nocturnal Strike. From there on out, it’s smooth sailing.

The last pet you need to defeat is Gnawface. In comparison to the other two pets, Gnawface is a pushover. His abilities are; Sneak Attack, Comeback, and Call Darkness. I used my standard team consisting of Infinite Whelpling, Kun-Lai Runt, and Pygmy Direhorn, but you can probably use whatever you want. Something to bear in mind might be to use a pet that can counter Call Darkness so Sneak Attack won’t do as much damage.

That’s it!

Good luck with your new Menagerie, may the pet battle-odds be ever in your favour!
