Exploring Draenor: Mr Pinchy Sr.

by - 10 years ago

Exploring Draenor delves into the hidden places of the world that will one day become Outland. From the volcanic landscape of Frostfire to the gloomy dells of Shadowmoon, these articles are your guide to events that are off the beaten path.

Location: Cerulean Lagoon, north-east of the Broken Precipice in Nagrand

Task: Kill

Rewards: 27 Garrison Resources and Empty Crawdad Trap

Burning Crusade veterans and pet collectors will remember Mr Pinchy. Able to be fished from a just one specific type of pool in just one location in the whole of Outland (Skettis, in Terrokar), the catch was extremely rare, but could reward you with Magical Crawdad – if you were lucky.

Mr Pinchy was the only makrura on Outland, but he had to come from somewhere. In Warlords, we find out the origins of this occasionally friendly, occasionally malevolent lobster-man – although how he ever made it up to Skettis is a question that, for now, will go unanswered (those claws don’t look too good for climbing).

Mr Pinchy Sr. is located in the Cerulean Lagoon, in northern Nagrand – near to the Zangar Sea, which will eventually become Zangarmarsh. Be relatively careful, as the atmosphere here is toxic and will drain your health. However, fighting the mobs in the area will keep you alive (see below).

Pinchy is a large, red rare spawn makrura standing next to one of the giant mushrooms covering the area. Although it looks like there is a lot of kiting room, the NPC will evade if too far from his spawn point. I found the easiest way to kill him was to just run around his mushroom.

There are three abilities that Mr Pinchy Sr will assault you with, although none are too threatening. First is Bubble Spout, which is a cast-time ability affecting an area in front of the lobster. It appeared to have a pretty short range, and can be interrupted. There is also Painful Pinch, a melee-range ability with a DoT attached, and Sunder Armor. Despite this profusion of attacks, Pinchy is actually very easy to deal with thanks to his Vivifying Blood buff, which he shares with other makrura in the area. Being affected with this ability, which will happen when you hit Pinchy, will cause your attacks to heal you.

There are conflicting reports that Mr Pinchy Sr. can also drop the Mr Pinchy pet, but these are unconfirmed.

My Pinchy Sr. spawns very close to a quest-starter item, the Buried Timewarped Staff – but more on this one later…
