by Magistrate - 10 years ago show comments
Avast, ye mateys! World of Warcraft‘s Pirates’ Day is upon us this September 19, and the jolly crew at BlizzPro has a map of sorts to guide you through the day’s festivities. Poor metaphors, puns, and other shenanigans aside, you’ll find everything you need here to set sail for swashbuckling!
Ye Olde Overview
Pirates’ Day is a celebration of all things pirate, and it occurs in tandem with the real world Talk Like a Pirate Day. Unlike the drab IRL version, Pirates’ Day in World of Warcraft comes complete with a Booty Bay invasion (see Booty Bay section below, as well as festive city NPCs and an achievement (see Achievement section below).

Wipe That Gigglemug Off Your Face
Admittedly, I just wanted to use the Victorianism “gigglemug” in a header, but it raises a good point. Pirates’ Day, similar to the Harvest Festival, does not count toward the What a Long, Strange Trip It’s Been meta achievement and offers very little when it comes to the major World of Warcraft holidays. But that doesn’t mean it’s not fun!
Drop Anchor at Booty Bay
For one day and one day only, Dread Caption DeMeza and her nefarious pirate crew take Booty Bay by sword and tankard. DeMeza can be found on the roof of the bank. After speaking with her, you will acquire the Dread Corsair buff, which “makes the target an honorary member of the Dread Captain DeMexa’s crew.” In other words, for 12 hours your face and hairstyle will be modified to look a little more pirate-y, and you’ll look like you have a white shirt, a pair of red pants, and a black pirate hat. The buff persists through death and vanishes when you shapeshift or enter an arena.
Additionally, you’ll find Cap’n Slappy, First Mate Hapana, Ol’ Chumbucket, and various Dread Crew members scattered throughout the town.
Achievement
When you choose to drink with DeMeza through chatting with her, not only will you gain the Dread Corsair buff, but you’ll also earn the achievement The Captain’s Booty for 10 achievement points.
Shoot Your Cuff with a Fashionable Pirate Wardrobe
Festivities aside, there’s also some pirate fun you can make for yourself and friends!
- Use the Rime of the Time-Lost Mariner to appear like a ghostly pink skeleton pirate.
You can get one for yourself by defeating the Dread Ship Vazuvius at the Timeless Isle–it has a 14.18% drop chance, and its effect lasts for 15 minutes with a 2 hour cooldown. - Buy a Senegal or a Cockatiel (40 silver each) from Narrk in Booty Bay.
- Get a cool pirate hat! (First Mate Hat, Admiral’s Hat, Bloodsail Admiral’s Hat, Burgy Blackheart’s Handsome Hat) (Gaazardeil, WoWHead)
The First Mate Hat is a common drop throughout Northern Stranglethorn and The Cape of Stranglethorn The Admiral’s Hat can be obtained from the Auction House or by crafting it with the tailoring Pattern: Admiral’s Hat. The Bloodsail Admiral’s Hat is a quest reward from Avast Ye, Admiral!. Burgy Blackheart’s Handsome Hat drops from a rare spawn in the Shimmering Expanse, Vashj’ir named Burgy Blackheart with a 99% drop rate. - Get a fashionable pirate-themed accent piece, like a stein to show everyone you have a scalawag-level drinking problem or a Adamantite Rapier. (Gazaardeil, WoWHead)
The Adamantite Rapier can be purchased off the Auction House or crafted with the blacksmithing Plans: Adamantite Rapier. - Get fancy and make a pirate roleplay character with the MyRolePlay or Total RP 2 addons.
We hope you found something to do for Pirates’ Day this year. Thanks for the read and have fun!
