Blizzard Outlines Process for WoD CE Buyers to Boost Nowish

by - 10 years ago

If you’re someone who insists on buying Collector’s Editions for Blizzard games (or just Warcraft expansions) then you may have found yourself in a dilemma lately; you can pre-purchase Warlords of Draenor digitally and get to use your level 90 boost right now, but if you’re pre-ordering a physical Collector’s Edition, you’ve got to wait until you’ve got the box before you can get the boost.

Well, Blizzard has outlined a method for you to get your boost now. Effectively, you’re paying for the expansion twice (once to pre-purchase the game so you can use the boost now, and once when you buy the CE) and what you’re getting at the end is a) whatever jollies you’ve got from boosting a character now and b) a key for a copy of the game to give to someone else or use for a second account.

Think of it this way: if the reason you’re doing this is ONLY to get the level 90 boost, you’re better off just buying the $60 character boost right now and eating the $10 difference. That saves you the trouble of calling up the beleaguered Blizzard CS reps and the trouble of conjuring up what you’re going to do with an excess key for WoD. Coming up with a use for the boost you’ll get for free with the CE is much easier than having a spare key.

Buzz around the bullpen here is that Blizzard might have been better off giving people gametime in return for that unnecessary key; why they opted to prescribe a method that will put a bunch of pressure on their Customer Service legions is really a question for the ages.

Read Blizzard’s procedure below if you’re interested.

For those looking to receive the free character boost now, but also want those sweet Collector’s Edition physical items, we’ve set up a process to ensure you can do both. Just follow these steps!

  1. Pre-purchase a digital version of Warlords of Draenor now and begin using the included character boost immediately
  2. Pick up your Collector’s Edition pre-order on 11.13.14
  3. Open it up and get a little emotional because of how beautiful it is
  4. Enter your Collector’s Edition key on your Battle.net Account Management page
  5. Contact Blizzard Customer Support for a replacement of your original Standard Edition Key!
  6. Give the digital key to a friend!
