Guide: Harvest Festival 2014

by - 10 years ago

The Harvest Festival is in full swing in World of Warcraft. Beginning on September 2 and lasting through September 9, players are able to celebrate the valor of fallen heroes for their respective factions, and this year BlizzPro put together a little guide to get you on your way.

  1. What Is the Harvest Festival?
  2. What Rewards Does the Harvest Festival Offer?
  3. What Quests and Activities Does the Harvest Festival Offer?

What Is the Harvest Festival?

The Harvest Festival marks a period of commemoration for the brave men and women who sacrificed everything in pursuit of their faction’s continuation. There are some real-world parallels that this is apparently based on, but for our purposes the holiday is dedicated to the past successes of the Alliance and the Horde. For each faction, there is focus on a significant single lore character whose prowess surpasses most others.

For the Horde, remembering the valor of Grom Hellscream is of particular importance. His name should ring some bells regardless of your allegiance–Grom will play a significant part in the events of Warlords of Draenor. “Main universe” Grom was the Orc warlord who first consumed the blood of the demon Mannoroth, thus empowering and enslaving his people to the will of the Burning Legion. While this might not seem particularly worthy of remembrance, Grom also paid the ultimate price–his own life–in subsequently freeing the Orcs from the Burning Legion’s hold and destroying the Destructor.

For the Alliance, honoring the legacy of Uther the Lightbringer is central. Lord Uther lays claim to the title of first paladin of the Knights of the Silver Hand and valiantly led them to battle against the Horde in the Second War. One of the greatest paladins to ever live, he is also known for training Prince Arthas–who would eventually become the Lich King–in the ways of the Light.

Of course, far more than Grom and Uther died making the Alliance and the Horde as they are today possible, but these two are the hallmark heroes.

What Rewards Does the Harvest Festival Offer?

Unfortunately, the Harvest Festival isn’t the most engaging of holidays. This event does not offer gear, titles, achievements, or vanity items. Additionally, it does not count toward What a Long, Strange Trip It’s Been. But if you’re a completionist…

What Quests and Activities Does the Harvest Festival Offer?

When the festival begins, feasting tables appear outside Orgrimmar and Ironforge, from which players can partake of some the festivals foods. Javnir Nashak (Horde) and Wagner Hammerstrike (Alliance) allow players to embark on a journey to honor their respective hero:

Quest

Honoring a Hero (Horde) from Javnir Nashak

Javnir Nashak (Horde) at the Harvest Festival

Javnir Nashak (Horde) at the Harvest Festival

Quest Text

During the Harvest Festival of Azeroth, we give thanks to heroes for the sacrifices – in some cases ultimate sacrifices – they have given on our behalf. The Horde acknowledges many heroes, but none exemplify strength and sacrifice more than Grom Hellscream.

Help us honor Grom by taking this offering to his monument in the Demon Fall Canyon of Ashenvale. Place it at the base, and then return to me. I’ll only be here through the end of the festival, so waste no time in giving Grom his tribute.

Rewards

Gold (if completed at level 90) and The Horde’s Hellscream

Quest

Honoring a Hero (Alliance) from Wagner Hammerstrike

Wagner Hammstrike (Alliance) at the Harvest Festival

Quest Text

During the Harvest Festival of Azeroth, we give thanks to heroes for the sacrifices – in some cases ultimate sacrifices – they have given on our behalf. The Alliance acknowledges many heroes, but none weave a more tragic tale than that of Uther Lightbringer.

Help us honor Uther by taking this offering to his tomb in the Western Plaguelands. Place it at his statue, and then return to me. I’ll only be here through the end of the festival, so waste no time in giving Uther his tribute.

Rewards

Gold (if completed at level 90) and For the Light!

Additionally, players who complete their faction’s quest will also receive mail from their respective quest-giver two days later containing Bounty of the Harvest. Every 12 hours, using this item creates the 4 foods mentioned in the preceding section (Harvest Boar, Harvest Bread, Harvest Fish, and Harvest Nectar).

And that wraps it up. It’s a fairly simple holiday and takes almost no time to finish, so go honor some imaginary heroes!
