Horde & Alliance Auction Houses Merged in 6.0

by - 10 years ago

Some huge news, especially for those who like to play the Auction House, when 6.0 hits, it will bring a merged faction Auction House.  This means BOTH Horde and Alliance will be sharing the same Auction House.

This will also make it much easier for players who play on the smaller faction on a server when they are trying to buy things such as crafting mats, BOEs, toys and mounts.   When there are fewer players on a faction, it can be extremely pricey to purchase items, if you can find them at all.  It will also help those smaller unmerged servers with smaller volume on the Auction House as well.

On the downside, if you are actively earning gold from the Auction House or are a high seller of glyphs, enchants as well as raw mats, you will suddenly have double the competition overnight, meaning AH wars will be much more likely – but you will have double the potential buyers too.  This will come in very handy at the start of the expansion when everyone is trying to buy new mats to level professions as well as snap up those important BOEs.

Another drawback is it will become much harder to transfer gold from one faction to another.  Right now, players can use the neutral auction house to transfer gold, either by selling something at an inflated price, or by selling something dirt cheap and hoping your friend can purchase it off the Auction House before a bot snaps it up, so you can then resell it on the other faction.

What will happen with faction specific items will need to be addressed.  Some items change depending on whether it is on the Horde or Alliance side, such as the Battered Hilt, which has two faction specific versions.  Will it be buyer beware for players to notice it?  Or if someone on Alliance buys the Horde version of the Battered Hilt, will it automatically change?

If you are a big player on your faction’s Auction House, you probably want to start paying attention to what is happening in your market areas on the opposing faction’s AH so you will already know who the big players are, your main competition, and their posting cycles.
