Stockton Tweets Reveal New Garrisons Info

Cory “Mumper” Stockton, Lead Content Designer for WoW, did an ad hoc Q&A over Twitter this morning, dropping some new information specifically for the new Garrisons feature in Warlords of Draenor, but also touched on a couple other subjects.
Garrisons
- There will be “some interplay” between pet battles and the player’s garrison.
- The Stables and Pet Stable (these are two different buildings) will allow you to display your favorite pets and mounts, with upgrades allowing you to display more.
- The Storehouse building will increase the capacity for your gathering-oriented buildings, and potentially link with your bank and Void Storage.
- These gathering-oriented buildings “will allow you to gather without the profession.” However, the buildings aren’t meant to replace the professions wholesale.
- The Blacksmith building will be able to smelt ore.
- Portals back to the capital cities are “on the table.” Also, being able to set your hearth there is likely, since there’s an inn and a flight path.
- “Most followers will be Draenor locals.“
- On the subject of how garrisons will be sped up for alts, the plan is to “be selective.” Blueprints, previously mentioned as something acquired as a drop, might be a candidate for this.
- Moving your garrison to a different zone will only alter some aesthetics, not restrict any buildings. Also: “It will cost gold/time.“
- Garrisons will have some gold-sink and time-sink elements: “More time then gold though.”
- Specific to gold costs, “nothing even remotely close to final yet.” One could assume that this applies for virtually every aspect of this feature.
Other Info
- On the topic of the boost-to-90 tokens, there’s discussion about the plan for professions/secondary skills. No specifics yet, but “soon.”
- In response to a question about whether they might skip the beta for Blizzard to expedite the expansion, Stockton stated that “beta is CRUCIAL.“
- On the subject of new models, animation is being touched up, not changed.
- Monuments can be deployed to show off certain achievements for different playstyles.
It’s very tempting to try and extrapolate more about how garrisons will work from this information and what we learned at BlizzCon. However, a great deal about the feature could change during the course of the beta. That said, the fact that we’re beginning to get some hints to prime the world for the expansion means that beta is likely going to be in the near future. Stay tuned.
